Sea Day on June 17th

Sea Day on June 17th
On our way to Los Angeles, we became concerned with Hurricane Bud, a powerful storm coming up the pacific coast of Mexico.   We had Cabo San Lucas on our itinerary, but around June 12thand 13th, so did Hurricane Bud.  Fortunately, it veered northeast at the last minute.  Cabo got hit with a glancing blow on June 14thwith winds in the 50-60mph range, so we suspended our concern. Today we recharge a bit. At 10am, Peter Croyle

It is only 89 nautical miles from our berth in Los Angeles to San Diego.  We come into the harbor right around 8:00am and are berthed right next to the USS Midway aircraft carrier, which is now a museum.  What an honor. We also see two active ones on our way in, the USS Carl Vinson and the USS Theodore Roosevelt. We are right in the heart of this beautiful city, right in the huge, bustling

We arrive at Berth 93 of the Los Angeles World Cruise Terminal before we awakened at 5:45am. Today 400+ passengers will disembark and another 400+ will board.  The segment just completed went from Papeete, Tahiti in French Polynesia to LA and covered a total of 5,580 nautical miles.  By the way, a nautical mile is 1.1508 statute miles, so on land, this journey would have been measured as 6,622 miles. Today we have a very special

This is our fifth day heading eastbound toward the United States.  Seas are the same.  Los Angeles cannot come soon enough.  We plan a busy day that includes packing, because tomorrow we will ship four suitcases to the Spanish Community of Wallingford.  Originally we would have had to wait until we disembarked in Miami, but Cathy has been developing a plan of attack that is much better.  She has learned that we can ship stuff from

Still we rock and roll on our fourth consecutive Sea Day.  As said before, this is a constant topic of conversation, and the reactions that people experience from the motion are various.  Some people love it.  Well, good for them.  But most people find it a bit exhausting to have your body constantly adjusting to the ship.  Some people look on the bright side and say it gives them a good excuse to do almost nothing.

The Pacific continues to remind us just how small one ship can be on this vast ocean, and moves the ship around enough to make the day a bit uncomfortable but certainly not enough to deter us from participating in certain activities – like eating and drinking. Today’s special event is the Around The World Winetasting.  Our joining in this event was a result of yesterday’sO’Dell Winetasting.  We were in just the right frame of mind

We have several activities to occupy our time today.  Oceania does a great job on these Sea Days planning extra events and activities. The first one we attend is only for those of us who are on the Around the World Cruise.  These are not to be missed, because the cruise line really does treat us special with these events. It begins at 11:30am, and we attend with the O’Dells.  There are many scrumptious goodies, especially

Sea Day on June 10th
We begin our 2,324-nautical mile journey yesterday at 4:00pm.  The next morning we are greeted with moderate seas with enough wave motion to be very noticeable.  Not enough to make us ill, mind you, because we sort of have our sea legs by now, but Cathy especially is feeling a bit dizzy all the time.  Given the great weather we have had for most of the 160 days we have been aboard, we can’t really complain

Today is an early start for our excursion Heaven and Earth – Helicopter & North Shore: 7:45 in Insignia Lounge.  We’re as excited as schoolchildren on their first day as we have been looking forward to this tour ever since Cathy’s brother John suggested we do this. And adding to the anticipation is the first paragraph of today’s Oceania Cruises Currentsdescribes Kauai: “The Isle of Kauai (Pronounced Ka-wa-ee in Hawaiian or Kah-why in English), is the
