Sirena is heading northeast and will pass the Lofoten archipelago today enroute to Hammerfest, Norway. We will be back to Leknes, one of Lofoten’s two towns, on the 7th of September.
We welcome this Sea Day as a time to relax and perhaps catch up on things. The morning is spent in Horizons, right in the bow. The sea is active, but the ship is handling it well.
The captain’s message at noon updates us on the ship’s position and the weather outside.
We’ve covered 300 miles since leaving Kristiansund and have 350 more to go to reach Hammerfest at 9am tomorrow. We’re cruising at 18 knots, which is flank speed for Sirena.
We’re heading right into a stiff wind blowing at 23 knots/hour – right into the waves. When you add the wind speed and the ship speed, the “relative wind” is 40 knots/hour, which could be termed gale force in another context. The perfect excuse for Steve not to take a walk on the fitness track!
This post has nothing special to report. Just want to include some photos of what we see from our veranda during the day.
Tomorrow awaits. We rest up for four days in four towns, all of them above the Arctic Circle. Hope our good weather karma holds out.
