Sea Day on June 5th

Sea Day on June 5th

The seas continue to churn.  10-foot waves out of the northeast as we are headed northwest.  Means the ship pitches and rolls.  Now granted this is not exactly the Perfect Storm, but it is enough to make things unpleasant.  It puts Horizons on Deck 10 and Insignia Lounge on Deck 5 off limits for both of us as they are in the bow of Insignia.  Cathy starts taking seasick meds, Steve thinks he has his sea legs (acquired since we got on in Miami, to be sure) but puts on Sea Bands as insurance.

The “motion of the ocean,” as Cruise Director Ray terms it, doesn’t prevent us from our normal activities. Cathy begins reading Moby Dick by Herman Melville.  Steve writes a long post on Tonga.

We have lunch with Brian and Barbara O’Dell right in the stern in the Grand Dining Room.  The ship’s motion in the stern just doesn’t seem nearly as challenging as the bow for some reason.  It certainly doesn’t curb our appetite, especially for the raspberry almond tart dessert that Cathy has (a photo of which leads this post).

Naps are in order after lunch.  I mean, hey, they are in order every day, but are especially welcome when the rocking of the ship actually enhances the experience.

The only other note I wrote on today’s Currents is that we had Room Service deliver sandwiches to us for dinner in our room.  The lovely cheerful room service person named Jay (from the Philippines) that delivers coffee to us every morning at 5:45am delivers and picks up our tray for dinner.   That woman works long, long shifts sometimes, but we have never seen her without a smile and a jovial hello.  One of my very favorite people on this entire voyage.

We are due in Honolulu around noon tomorrow.  We will be glad to be getting back on land.

The photo of that dessert made my mouth water! Love the artistic presentation, too.
