Today the Pacific Ocean is not our best friend. Explorer Ferdinand Magellan was the one who named this ocean Pacificabecause he was becalmed here, but this biggest of all of Earth’s oceans can prove that Magellan was mistaken any time it wants. Today is one of those days. We are experiencing 10-foot waves and sheets of rain. Later in the day the captain announces that this will keep up for another 24 hours and therefore we will be late arriving in Honolulu. Such is life on the high seas.
The place not to be on a day like this is Insignia Lounge where the lectures take place because it is in the bow. But the subjects don’t really interest us, so we end up watching “Gidget Goes Hawaiian.” Seriously. We really do. So do our friends the O’Dells. It’s just that kind of day.
But we do have a Mandatory Safety Drill at 10:15am, and Insignia Lounge is our muster station. By the time we get down there, Cathy is not feeling well. After checking in with our crewmember, Cathy asks if she can sit in the back of the room in case she has to leave. This crabby old woman that apparently gets special treatment from Oceania because she practically lives on their ships is sitting back there and says “I don’t want you sitting next to me if you’re going to be sick.” Well, excu-u-u-se me. The crewmember overhears this and tells Cath that it’s okay to return to our stateroom, which she does.
Dinner in the Grand Dining Room is one of the best we have had. Cathy and Steve both have pappardelle and scallops (a picture of which heads up this post), a signature dish of the Guest Master Chef on board.
After dinner we head back to the room. It’s early to bed (what else is new) for us. The ship is going to be rocking all night, which is really comfortable if you’re lying down. That’s our specialty!
