Sea Day on March 16th

While Cathy and Steve and approximately 190 others are taking the entire 180-day around-the-world cruise, the other 400 passengers are taking what Oceania refers to as segments.  There are eight segments: Miami to Barbados, Barbados to Cape Town, Cape Town to Singapore, Singapore to Beijing, Beijing to Sydney, Sydney to Papeete, Papeete to Los Angeles, and Los Angeles to Miami. Also, Miami to Singapore was considered a “Grand Voyage.”

So in Singapore, two-thirds of the passenger list changed.  We watch the process with interest, because now we are the “veterans” watching the “newbies” find their way around the ship the way we did seventy-three days ago.  We read a warning in Cruise Critic that, sometimes on these world cruises, cliques develop among those doing the entire thing,  We have certainly made friends among the ATW (around the world) guests, but that’s really a result of constantly seeing them around the ship rather than choosing them because of having the ATW thing in common. In fact, we have met some really great folks doing segments.

Not sure why I’m beebling away about this, except that I have spent very little time describing shipboard life, and I eventually need to correct that omission.  Today will not be that day, however, as we are one week behind on these posts.

Peter Croyle gives a lecture on “The History and Culture of Thailand,” which gives us a great perspective on the places we will be visiting these next three days.  And in the afternoon, there is a new Enrichment Lecturer.  His name is Same DeLong, he is a retired instructor of Digital Photography from Eastern Kentucky University.  His subjects are photography and recording our journey, and he is a delight.  He has a very informal and friendly style, and is a great addition to the ship.  We are learning some great tips on some of the photography features of our iPhones.

No doubt we did other stuff but we will move on.  There’s lots more interesting stuff to talk about.

You really shouldn’t feel you are “behind” in posting. That will put pressure on you so you end up thinking it is work. Relax! Kick back! Set a spell!!!
Besides, us home bodies will never know the difference. (But the blog IS a lovely bonus…)

We were on our tender when I took this shot. There’s another one down in the corner waiting to stop at the ship.

Yes, it was a fascinating island, Betty. A real community. That’s what we liked about it.
