Sea Day on February 6th

On Sea Days, as we have said before, we are establishing a routine.  And in our case, the routine holds our interest but is not jam-packed.  It probably is just as well that we are not on a larger ship as many of the activities available on such vessels  would not see us in attendance, even though we would be paying for them.  So here on Insignia, we do not feel we are losing out if we choose to restrict our entertainment options to attending lectures and … eating.  Eating judiciously, at least most of the time.

What I am leading up to is this: this will be a short post because, well, neither of us quite remember what we did while she ship plows through the sea at 18 knots toward Cape Town, South Africa.  For the beginning of this post, I am using a photo of the “lunar landscape” we saw that is part of the Namib Desert, the oldest desert on the planet earth, to symbolize my recollection of how we spent this day.

When we look in the “daily paper” for the day, Oceania Cruises Currents, we see that we attended another lecture by Peter Croyle, who gave us information on Cape Town and further info on European exploration and colonization.  And Angela Schneider gives us another scholarly but very interesting introduction on the evolution of human beings from many millions of years ago to the present.

But that’s about it.  This post is being written two days hence, so in the interest of getting caught up, we’re going to consider this day covered.   Got to get caught up on this blog.  See you tomorrow.

I read about a small pride of lions that lives in the Namib Desert, small because there is not enough food to sustain a “normal size” pride of lions so they procreate less frequently than prides found in more food-abundant places like the Serengeti. We’re enjoying our daily readings! Enjoy!

Those lions have gotta be very thirsty! But there’s game for them eat. Family outcasts?

So, when you show people this photo, you can say you’ve been to the moon. 🙂 It really does look desolate. What an interesting planet we inhabit — so many different climates, environments, and landscapes.
